The gorgeous 30 acre historic property, Belle Meade Plantation is located a short 6 miles west of Nashville and was once the largest private estate in Tennessee. Built in 1853, the Belle Meade mansion, a stunning Greek revival home adorned with traditional white columns and detailing, was the host of the Harding-Jackson family for a whopping five generations. The 5400 acres of land in the late 19th century was used as a thoroughbred nursery known chiefly for breeding and training
championship race horses. It has been said that today’s Kentucky derby winning horses like Barbaro and Secretariat can trace their lineage back to the breeding stock at Belle Meade. Guests can visit this beautiful and serene location and enjoy guided tours of the mansion and grounds which include a log cabin, carriage house and stable, and the original 1830’s slave quarters. A Southern eatery Martha’s, is also a delightful spot on the plantation where they serve up traditional home-style cuisine daily and even comes equipped with a tea room.
